Tres Gringos midget wrestling

I was contacted mid March by Rigo, a event coordinator at Tres Gringos Baja Cantina in San Jose California, to cover a special event they were holding. “We’re gonna have a midget wrestle two hooters girls in a pool full of top ramen” said Rigo. I replied, “well sounds like you need someone to document this important event”. The next day I arrived in San Jose worried about what the chemicals in top ramen would do to my camera gear…

I met Shane “don’t call me little” at the bar an hour before the show. He was nervously drinking a coke. The hooters girls arrived and we all became fast friends.

The Tres Gringos bar is located in the heart of San Jose’s infamous downtown bar district. About four bartenders were needed to feed the thirsty masses. At about 10pm they started pouring the top ramen into the pool they had roped off.

Needless to say the crowd was pumped to see two very attractive young ladies slosh about in a pool full of top ramen. However, when Shane came out of the dressing room, on the shoulders of one of the largest bouncers I have ever scene, the crowd went nuts.

The event quickly turned into a free-for-all with girls from the bar jumping into the pool and tag-teaming poor Shane.

All in all it was a successful event for the team at Tres Gringos. Photographing strange social events like these, reminds me how diverse life is. And how great it is to be a photographer documenting these occurrences. If Mark Twain coined the term “Truth is stranger than fiction…”, then the camera has proved him correct.
